Journal History

The Journal of Project Management is the successor to the journal Project and Program Management, which was primarily focused on practical publications due to its target audience consisting mainly of practitioners. Unlike its predecessor, the Journal of Project Management aims to publish both scientific research papers and highlight advanced practices in project management in Russia and internationally. This specialized Russian publication is dedicated to professional project management.

Additionally, there is a growing need to develop methodological and theoretical knowledge in project and program management, as well as research skills, not only among practitioners but also among university faculty, young scientists, and students.

The launch of the Journal of Project Management continues the traditions of the State University of Management (SUM) as both a leading managerial and project-oriented university in Russia. SUM has played a key role in establishing the theoretical and research foundation for project management. In 1990, SUM was one of the five founding members of the Project Management Association SOVNET. Furthermore, in 1996, SUM established Russia’s first Department of Project Management, where faculty members developed an educational and methodological base for project management studies.

Since 2024, the State University of Management has been officially designated as a Federal Innovation Platform for implementing the Interregional Educational and Methodological Center for Project-Based Learning: Project-Based Learning as a Practical Training Technology (Order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation No. 28, dated January 19, 2024).
